The town of Sibari is situated on the Ionian coast, between the Appennino Lucano and Sila Greca mountains, and is considered to be the most beautiful of the ancient Greek colonies, legendary for its richness and elegance. The Sanctuary of the Goddess Athena, the Sibaritide museum and the thousands of ruins, are magnificent reminders of the ancient city. The Sibari plane is dominated by the intense greenness of this Mediterranean location, by the vineyards and olive groves, and by the intense colour of the sea and the luminous white sand. The charm of the natural environment, and the local people with their traditions and warm hospitality, are reminiscent of the elegance and refinement of days gone by. Not far away is the National Park of Pollino: the impressive watershed between Basilicata and Calabria, where the Mediterranean scrub gradually gives way to different fragrances and colours, and to lush stretches of beech trees and maritime pines.
